Supporters get inside look at new Downey Family Access Center

On Thursday, September 15, we were proud and honored to invite some of our dearest friends and supporters to take a first look at our new Downey Family Access Center, a comprehensive facility that provides important amenities for children and families in our community who are experiencing homelessness.

In addition to gaining access to laundry machines, showers, computer stations, a family playroom, and a fully stocked food pantry, families can connect with our housing navigation and problem solving teams to get the help and resources they need to transition to permanent housing. Guests were able to get personal tours of the facility and all its many amenities.

Guests who spoke at the event included Senator Bob Archuleta, Downey Mayor Blanca Pacheco, Assemblymember Cristina Garcia, Board member Rick Rodriguez, and George Muriel from Golden Rule Community Development Cooperation (a key and early supporter of the project). We hosted so many officials and representatives from our neighborhoods, chambers of commerce, organizations, and businesses in Downey, Whittier, and Santa Fe Springs…and we are grateful for the outpouring of passion and enthusiasm for our center! The Whole Child also wishes to acknowledge and thank SoCalGas, our generous sponsor for the reception.

We are deeply fortunate to have so many incredible partners in helping us to fulfill our mission to change the lives of children and their families.
