Nora, Housing Client

“In 2013, I got arrested and went to prison for three years.  I lost my kids immediately.  When I first came out of prison in January, I was turned down constantly.  I didn’t have the income to qualify to get my own place to live let alone a place for me and my children.  I thought eventually that I would lose children for good because my kids would never forgive me for the mistakes that I made in the past.  My fear is that my son would graduate from high school and I would never hear from him again.

I first came to The Whole Child in 2016 in November through the Families Coming Home Together Project in Housing and December 23rd I got my place.  The day they helped me pay my deposit and first month’s rent, I moved it.  My son was reunited with me on January 1st.

Thank you for believing and trusting in me.  When I come home and walk through my door, I feel this sense of security that I had lost.  The Whole Child program gave me back my son and my humanity.  There were times when I didn’t feel like that.  Without The Whole Child, I would never have been able to be where I am today.”
