Katrina, Housing Client

“Before coming to The Whole Child, my family and I were fleeing domestic violence, which led my family to become homeless.  We were referred to The Whole Child Family Housing Program by my son’s school.  We did not have access to a shower, a place to rest or for my kids to do their homework.  We ended up bouncing around between motels and friends’ houses which ended up putting a strain my support system.  I felt hopeless and lost without have a stable place to call home for my kids.

The Whole Child Family Housing Program provided rental deposit assistance as well as furniture assistance.  I worked with my case manager to complete a budget plan that helped me manage my expenses and an individual case plan to help me break down and achieve my goals.  Since being part of the program, my kids have gained confidence and continue to improve in school!

I never imagined getting all of the assistance I received.  I continue to successfully pay my rent on time and meet all the requirements of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).  The biggest change is to see my kids happy now that we have consistency and stability in our lives again.  The Whole Child has given me the opportunity to provide a better life for my children and it means the world to me.”
