The Whole Child’s West Covina Office Ribbon Cutting

| Press Releases

The Whole Child received a warm reception on Thursday, June 27th at  the TWC Service Delivery office in West Covina ribbon cutting and grand opening.  The office will house our Parent Enrichment field team serving San Gabriel Valley residents which marks our expansion of services for the first time into Los Angeles Service Planning Area 3 (SPA 3).  The expansion of this program was made possible by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health in partnership with  the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

“The team has gone through rigorous training and is excited to offer these preventative services providing additional support to new parents and caregivers of young children,” says Rocio Parra, Director of Birth to Five Programs, Parent Enrichment and Mental Health.  “One of the key components to this expansion is our ability open up services to more families by removing previous barriers to entering the program.”

Our Parent Enrichment services utilize the Parents as Teachers, evidence-based curriculum to support caregivers through home visiting services designed to help parents become their child’s best first teacher.  Parent Educators, also known as Home Visitors work side-by-side with each family on activities, such as lactation consultations and infant massage to encourage a strong parent-child bond, help coordinate check-ups and other medical care, regular developmental screenings for early identification and resources for developmental delays and monthly group socialization events to help new parents feel less isolated.  This team is able to identify and refer families to additional community resources if they may benefit from receiving additional support.  Parent Educators can meet their clients at home, community centers, local parks and libraries; wherever the family is most comfortable.
