New The Whole Child-SELACO partnership provides career and professional development services to family housing clients

The Whole Child has entered into an innovative partnership with Southeast Los Angeles County Workforce Development Board (SELACO), a leading business resource center and job seeker career center, in order to provide family housing clients with a comprehensive array of employment resources. For forty years, SELACO has helped its clients overcome barriers to establish long term and sustainable careers. Working out of The Whole Child’s new Family Access Center in Downey, SELACO specialists will provide a pilot group of 16 TWC family housing clients with career guidance and professional development along with laptops, internet access, and a cell phone stipend to aid them in their career search. In addition, the SELACO team will provide resources and support for many other TWC clients currently receiving services.

“We are thrilled to bring SELACO’s experience and expertise on-site to TWC’s Family Access Center” says Vanessa Sedano, Managing Director of Housing Services for The Whole Child. “Both organizations are committed to ensuring families don’t just move past homelessness – but also thrive once successfully housed.”

“This is just a start,” says TWC CEO Constanza Pachon, “we are excited to grow this partnership, especially as we work towards opening our new Interim Housing and Support Services Center in Santa Fe Springs. We know that through professional development and long term career prospects, families can end the cycle of homelessness. With SELACO’s support, The Whole Child can continue to treat the root causes of the issues that lead to homelessness, not just the symptoms.”
