The Whole Child’s Cerritos Office Ribbon Cutting

The Whole Child received a warm reception on Wednesday, May 15th at their office ribbon cutting and grand opening of the TWC Service Delivery office in Cerritos.  The office will house the Home Vising field team serving Southeast Los Angeles County residents, including Cerritos and 26 surrounding communities.

This program uses the Parents as Teachers, evidence-based curriculum to support parents through home visiting services, monthly socialization groups, developmental screenings and linkage to community based services designed to help parents become their child’s best first teacher.  With this expansion, clients can now self-refer for the first time and have easier access to these important support services which serve client prenatal through children 5-years-old.  The expansion of this program was made possible by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health in partnership with  the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

Parent Educators, also known as Home Visitors work side-by-side with each family on activities, such as lactation consultations and infant massage to encourage a strong parent-child bond, help coordinate check-ups and other medical care, regular developmental screenings for early identification and resources for developmental delays and monthly group socialization events to help new parents feel less isolated.  This team is able to identify and refer families to additional community resources if they may benefit from receiving additional support.  Parent Educators can meet their clients at home, community centers, local parks and libraries; wherever the family is most comfortable.
